Have you ever had someone try to dim your spark?
Youโre excited, enthusiastic and new to something,
Only to be told youโre not there yetโฆ
I remember when I was new to the crypto and blockchain space and was so excited at how many women I could inspire to start in a new emerging space, A space that was predominantly men. But I knew if I could bridge the gap then I could change this!
I saw a massive gap between the general public and the technical people involved in the Crypto space. I was introduced to a lady in the Blockchain space, and in 2018 there were very few women in the space.
I was excited at the idea of supporting each other, she didnโt have the same idea and before I knew it she had tried to dim my light and put me down, telling me that we donโt need people helping beginners we need people educating governments.
After some disappointment, I knew this was still my roleโฆ So I kept on my mission to educate more beginners.
Despite the negativity forced upon me I studied the Advanced Diploma in Blockchain and started working in the space and organizing community events. I practiced day and night determined to up level my skills to help more women who needed guidance in the space.
And there she was againโฆ yep
She told me I had no right to be running events and presenting because I was too new and I hadnโt done my time yet, she may have said a few other things that werenโt so nice that I will not repeat lol
It was that day that I decided just because I donโt have the runs under my belt, it wasnโt going to stop me from getting them! I knew everything was learnable, and I was ready to learn. Not just for me but for the ones who come after me. That needs to be encouraged rather than teared down.
With 20 years of experience in the event space and a love for building communities where everyone feels valued, I wasnโt about to let anyone tell me that Iโm not good enough just because Iโm a beginner. Everyone starts somewhere.
I donโt know where you are in your journey but all I know is that it is important for you to start somewhere, with the right people cheering you on.
You are always welcome with us. Come and join our cheer squad of women!
